AWS Solutions Architect Associate: practise architecture decisions

For cloud practitioners preparing for associate-level AWS architecture discussions or certification study. Use this guide when you recognise service names but want a more reliable way to choose between plausible designs.

Check your starting point

Be familiar with basic networking, identity and access, compute and storage concepts. Hands-on AWS experience helps you connect a written scenario to actual service behaviour. If a term is unfamiliar, consult the service documentation before treating it as an answer clue.

The official exam guide describes the target candidate and current exam scope. Use it to plan your preparation; this page is independent study guidance and does not set exam requirements.

Focus on requirements before service names

Practise extracting security, reliability, performance and cost constraints, then explaining which service boundary or architecture choice satisfies them. Patternly’s AWS track offers scenario questions and explanations; its Free topic covers secure architecture foundations.

A useful study session should leave you with a reason for a decision and an explicit condition under which it would change. It should not leave you with a rule that one service is always the best answer.

A method for reviewing an architecture scenario

  1. List the required outcomes. Separate hard constraints from preferences, and mark which facts are missing.
  2. Trace who accesses the system, where data moves and what can fail. Identify the permissions and boundaries that matter.
  3. Compare plausible designs against the stated constraints. Explain the decisive tradeoff instead of counting familiar service names.
  4. After reading feedback, write why your choice met or missed the requirement. Check uncertain service behaviour in the official documentation.
  5. Take the idea to a diagram or a safe exercise in your own learning environment. Predict a failure or access-denial case and explain how you would verify it.

Apply this method to the existing AWS demo. Before selecting an option, name the requirement that would rule a design out. After the answer, compare that requirement with the explanation.

Keep the limits clear

A single scenario cannot cover the certification syllabus or establish exam readiness. Written questions do not replace hands-on work, service documentation or official exam guidance. Patternly does not guarantee a certification result and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon Web Services.

The demo is one Free question with no saved progress or scheduled reviews. In the app, remaining content and certification exam simulations require Premium access. Purchases and app downloads are not available yet.
